Chapter 13 did a great job of providing a lesson on incorporating sources into ones work. The chapter broke this segment down into two major sections. The first one being about incorporating the sources and the second one about the different ways to cite your sources. When going about incorporating I found the part about parenthetical citations to be helpful. The Book listed the different ways that the writer can do so with varying formats such as MLA or APA. The Book also gave examples of how quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing can be used to incorporate sources. The chapter went even further giving examples about how a writer can incorporate them into their paper, but it also provided reasons as to why they might want to include them in their works. There were also reasons as to why someone might want to quote an author as opposed to paraphrase them. One point I thought about paraphrasing is that it can degrade the writer’s credibility since paraphrasing can leave the work open to interpretation. One important part about this chapter was the section about avoiding plagiarism, many times writers can accidentally plagiarize without the intentions of doing so. It is important to construct your own work with your ideas and to use sources as examples to support of your ideas. In regards to documenting sources, the book went into a brief discussion about using a works cited page or text citations as a means of citing. I personally thought that using a works cited page is the best method, because it helps organize your sources and the audience will have a much easier time finding the sources they are interested in.
