Chapter eight was very helpful in realizing how one should compose in genres. One of the advices that I really liked from this chapter was when they said one should start drafting before deciding on a genre. When rough drafting, you should write down your thoughts and think logically about the purpose, audience, and the points you want to hit. When rereading and annotating sources one must follow seven steps. What I found the most important of the steps was step 3, which involves identifying each authors purpose and main points. I find step three to be one of the most important because that is how you find out what is really relevant to your topic and what side of the argument or topic that author is supporting. When looking at the 8 steps for choosing a genre to compose in I found step 6 to be the most important. Step six involves narrowing one’s choices down to the three best choices. I find this step very important and helpful because with so many resources gathered one must narrow down all the choices in order to find the ones most suitable for the essay or paper. Out of the 10 steps for composing I found step 2 and 10 to be the most important and valuable. The part I liked about step 2 the most was that you find out what to use there that would help you the most for writing the paper. What I liked about step 10 was that it makes you revise everything that you have already done. Revising is important because it makes you think about what you have written and how it can be improved in different ways. In general one must make sure they have all the correct sources to use that is most helpful to ones paper.
